Our Story
Grounded in Science, Grown by Community
The origins of the Australia and New Zealand eDNA Society stem from the enthusiasm of our members. Our story started in late 2020 with a motivated group of practitioners connecting over shared goals.
Through collaborative workshops, we defined our mission and formed working groups to tackle the industry's biggest challenges. While the pandemic delayed our initial plans, it didn't stop our progress. In 2023, the Society hosted the inaugural eDNA conference in Hobart, finally bringing our community together in person.
Today, established as a professional scientific non-for-profit society, we continue to build on that foundation.

Our Mission
To advance the adoption of best-practice eDNA methods across Australia and New Zealand by fostering collaboration between science and industry. We are a cross-sector society, uniting members from research organisations, government, and the private sector to drive innovation and standards.
Our Values
At seDNA, we believe that diverse teams produce better science. We champion the application of advanced scientific methods while deeply respecting traditional knowledge and the custodianship of First Nations people. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment that welcomes members from all backgrounds and career stages, knowing that different perspectives lead to more robust solutions.
